Multiple Color Legends for a Single Measure in Tableau

When you put a single measure on the color tab in your Tableau worksheet, you get a single color legend. That makes sense.

But sometimes it can be frustrating. For instance, what if two different segments of your business have significantly different Sales values? We wouldn’t want to use a single color legend based on Sales for both segments. Could we have two different color legends based on the Sales in each segment of our business? Not by default.

In this video, we’re going to walk through how to create multiple color legends for the same measure! In our example, we’re going to create multiple Sales fields based on a single Sales measure, differentiated by Year.

This is hugely useful when comparing organizations, branches, or any other dimension with differing performance targets against the same measure.
